Japanese label Sacai as led by Chitose Abe showed its spring 2018 collection in Paris yesterday (June 24, 2017), a collection that included both men’s and women’s looks. Offerings were full of the signature Sacai twist and turn, slight of hand details that feels smooth as silk under Abe’s direction.
In addition to Sacai’s signature look, blending casual ease with high fashion concepts, spring included items featuring Western fringe, as well as an all-over print designed by New York typographic artist Lawrence Weiner that reads, “stasis as to vector all in due course,” part of a body of art created by Weiner in 2012.
The graphic kills multiple birds with one stone, deftly commenting on (and at the same time sidestepping) the all-over logo and typographic trend, as well as bringing in a touch of high art.
In terms of footwear, offerings were highlighted by a suede clog, whose earthy brown color was perked up with a yellow back strap. Gucci showed a similar comfort-rooted clog in its resort 2018 runway so perhaps we’re seeing a shoe trend in the making.
