Ikea And Designer Bea Åkerlund Announces Plans For Home Decor Collection

July 11, 2017. Leave a Comment

Following the news of a partnership with Off White designer Virgil Abloh, Ikea has revealed plans for a collection made in collaboration with Stockholm-born and Los Angeles-based costume designer Bea Åkerlund, who has worked in film, fashion and music, working with singers including Madonna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj, among others. Åkerlund also is the force behind Le Snob, an accessories label.

Titled Omedelbar, the collection of hats, pillows, prints and home accessories is described by Ikea as capturing the essence of Åkerlund’s style and esthetic. “Omedelbar is a chance to step into something new; the feeling of an exclusive Hollywood showroom where goth and glam meet each other. Large glass hats, red lip-shaped pillows, 3D printed hands for decorative jewelry display, and a B-shaped lamp are just a few of the Omedelbar ingredients,” reads press.

“It’s a collection that allows for not taking life so seriously,” says Åkerlund. “I want people to have a little fun in their lives. You can get one hand and put it on the wall, or 100 hands and turn it into a piece of art. Buy one lip pillow, or buy 20 to create a lip pillow ocean. Fill the hat with anything, from apples to your collection of buttons, to your bathroom essentials. It’s really all up to you.”

Check out the hate, red pillows and 3D-printed hands from the collection below, and look for the all items to hit stores in March 2018.

Part of his debut collection with the retailer, the men's "giant fit" chino priced at 89.50 is 100% sold out! Relecting the popularity of the silhouette, the women's wide-leg pleated cargo is also sold out.

With wider fits and chino swinging back into popularity, we can't help but wonder what sneakers and shoes will be coming along for the ride. Any nominations?

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.
