Jordan has tapped singer/songwriter SZA for a photo shoot featuring the brand’s women’s silhouettes for spring 2018, most of which dropped last week.
SZA is shot wearing the Jordan Retro 7 Vachetta Tan and Retro 1 Hi Zip. The only silhouette she’s not wearing from the capsule is the Retro 1 shoe offered in an array of pastel colors.
SZA is known for her love of sneakers and comfortable clothing and shoes and as of late has been spotted wearing Converse high-top Chuck Taylor sneakers made in collaboration with J.W. Anderson.
Does she have an exclusive deal with Nike? Judging from her Instagram feed it’s possible. She last wore a pair of Adidas sneakers in August 2017 and since then it’s only been Converse or Nike. She has worn Balenciaga Triple S sneakers but given Balenciaga is more of a fashion brand, any contract she’s signed may have excluded them.
Recently Nike released a very splashy Air Force 1 collaborative project with Virgil Abloh, Drake, Travis Scott, among others. At the same time, other than stylist Aleali May’s Jordan 1 collaboration, we haven’t seen any shoes done in collaboration with female celebrities. Bella Hadid is signed to Nike, but she hasn’t made any shoes in collaboration with the brand.
How great would it be if Nike did a collection of Air Force 1 shoes in collaboration with not just SZA, but true female sneaker aficionados like Kehlani, Jourdan Dunn, CL and Karrueche? We can say it wouldn’t be just great, it’d be stupendous.
