A Style And Shopping Guide To The New-New Monochromatic Looks

March 21, 2018. Leave a Comment

All-black-everything has always been fashion’s most dynamic look. It can scream subtle and bold, mysterious and uniform, effortless and polished all in the same second. At least once a year, the fashion world proclaims a new black, recently it’s millennial pink, a shade that continues to hang around long past its welcome.

Monochromatic looks are not a new style concept, but with the mainstream embrace of streetwear-inspired tracksuits and jumpsuits, the classy all navy, all black, all white, all safe looks have evolved into a look that’s more streamlined and playful.

It’s also a perfect ensemble for city dwellers, and is a favorite among street style photographers because it makes for a punchy, eye-catching story that pops against the backdrop of dreary streets and buildings.

And though the concept is rooted in coordination, the key to pulling off monochromatic style is avoiding Garanimal levels of matchy matchiness, instead incorporating contrasting textures and slightly different shades of the same red or purple to add depth and individuality. In addition to separates, the brightly-colored faux furs and fuzzy fleece jackets that are very much of the moment are a perfect way to finish the look–take advantage!

Shoes and accessories are your chance to step out and make a contrasting statement. White shoes and boots are not only very popular at the moment, but also a great offset to a monochromatic look. I’m partial to transparent bags and brightly colored transparent lenses on the shades. You have a ton of options!

Check out some samples of monochromatic outfits via some of the most stylish in the game, along with a shopping guide for each color story.

Note: our store has been updated with all the items featured in the story and you can check that out here.

Happy shopping!
