New York-based menswear brand Noah has announced plans to open a fifth store in Japan. Dubbed Noah Noodle Shop, the store will be located in Osaka. Currently the brand/retailer operates locations in Los Angeles, New York, London and Tokyo.
As part of the store launch, the brand is releasing a commemorative t-shirt featured a carved wooden bear with a salmon in its mouth, a Japanese art form called Kibori Kuma.
According to Noah press, “Although originating in Switzerland, Kibori Kuma carvings adopted by Japanese farmers as a source of income in the winter months. They have become a part of Japanese rural craft culture and, according to our Japanese team, can be found in the homes of many of their grandparents.”
On the timing given an ongoing global pandemic, the company commented, “It certainly feels like a strange time to be opening a new store, and while things in Japan, much like the rest of the world, have not got back to normal, we hope we can get there carefully and share this amazing new project with the world.”
