Just in time for holiday gift giving, IKEA and Ben Gorham of Byredo have launched a collection of candles. Titled OSYNLIG (“invisible” in Swedish), offerings include 13 scents housed in reusable lidded ceramic containers.
Reflecting on the concept of invisible design, IKEA press reads, “While developing the fragrances in the OSYNLIG collection, we brought in students from the Royal College of Art to explore ‘invisible design,’ the idea that how you feel in your home is about more than just how it looks. Together we prototyped products that used light, sound and smell to transform space, and this helped us put the final range together.”
Gorham adds, “The way your home smells is very emotional and plays a huge part in how you feel while you’re there. It isn’t just about things being functional and practical, it’s the place where you come together with family and friends and make memories.”
While the candles are described as invisible, they do indeed exude a fragrance provided by unusual combinations like cotton flower and apple blossom, tobacco and honey, rose and raspberries and fig and Cypress lilac, among others.
Providing a considerable discount from the typical Byredo candle price point of $85, IKEA and Gorhan’s OSYNLIG candles range in price from $4.99 to $24.99 and are now available on ikea.com.
