Gucci as lead by Alessandro Michele made a big splash today with a spring presentation featuring a collaboration with Balenciaga. Both brands are owned by Kering, a French luxury brand house.
This year marks Gucci’s 100th anniversary, which was reflected in the show through references to the label’s founder as well as Tom Ford, who designed for the label from 1994 through 2004.
While the two major European fashion houses collaborating is unprecedented, Gucci set the stage when it collaborated with The North Face earlier this year.
Outside of Kering, labels including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Prada and even Chanel have opened up to collaborations especially especially with athletic and highly-regarded streetwear names.
