CEO and music creative Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) presented Yeezy Season 9 in Paris today (October 2, 2022). The collection was shown during Paris Fashion Week though it wasn’t included on the official schedule.
Most of the clothing was similar to the dark Earth-toned puffer jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts and t-shirt silhouettes Ye made in collaboration with Gap and Balenciaga, though there were some fitted dresses detailed with cut-out holes. Ye and several of the models including Saleh Marley wore a white t-shirt, printed on the back with the phrase “white lives matter,” a controversial play on the Black Lives Matter movement that has been labeled a hate slogan by the Anti-Defamation League.
Attendees were gifted three soaps on a rope, perhaps hinting at Ye’s long-rumored plans to enter the beauty business.
Hinting at his idea of a dream model line up, yesterday Ye took to Instagram where he posted an image featuring the faces of a combination of A-list models and celebrities including Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill and more. And while, most of the people on his wish list didn’t appear on the runway, Naomi Campbell walked and members of Beyoncé’s team were in attendance. Anna Wintour and designer John Galliano were also there.
While it’s been claimed only 50 people were invited to the show, multiple Instagram accounts including A$AP Bari and Selah Marley posted images of backstage badges stamped with YZYSZN9 on their social feeds. Following the show, Ye was spotted with Candace Owens, a far right extremist who has spoken positively about Adolph Hitler.
Ye let it be known he was showing again in Paris about two weeks ago, shortly after his break up with Gap became official. At the time, he claimed the retailer was making it difficult for him to find someone to produce his collection.
Yesterday, Ye made his own fashion history when he opened Balenciaga‘s runway presentation, marking his first time modeling in a show.
