Sole DXB held its annual festival Dubai celebrated from December 9-11, 2022. Marking its 10th anniversary, the event was hosted for the first time by Moroccan designer and photographer Hassan Hajjaj, whose resume includes shooting Cardi B for New York, as well as Billie Eilish for Vogue. Known for tapping reimagining Moroccan cultural touchstones, Hajjaj created artful gathering spaces throughout the festival including a shop with activations by Henna artist Azra Henna.

In true Snobette fashion, we sought to highlight the women-centered activations and independent women-led brand that were on site. Events included “Agents of Change,” a talk hosted by Eeman Abbas, founder of wellness brand Ketish, with Sarah Alagroobi and Asma Elbadawi, all of whom discussed how Arab women who are shaking the status quo in culture.

Women-founded labels with displays at the event included: Claudette by Layan Al-Abbous, Kazna Asker, Alyssa Marie Groeneveld, as well as Jameela Elkafi’s Azeema magazine and agency, which curated a selections of independent labels including Air Pangea, Azura Lovisa, By.Wuzzy, Hadiyah Hussein and Karma Malhas.

A book-signing was hosted at Virgin Megastore featuring Nav Gill, author of Nice Kicks and Vikii Tobak who penned Ice Cold, a book documenting hip hop jewelry history.

Sole DXB started in 2011 as a sneaker and hip hop event in a warehouse with about 1,000 attendees. Over the years, founders Hussain Moloobhoy, Rajat Malhotra and Joshua Cox expanded their vison to establish a yearly event with global brand including Adidas, Puma, On Running, and performers like Burna Boy, Wu-Tang Clan, Rico Nasty, Jorja Smith, Rapsody and Ari Lennox to name a few.
