Music creative SZA popped into New York for a few days to host a live concert at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Friday (August 8, 2023). She announced the event 24 hours in advance on Instagram where fans quickly snatched up the 200 free tickets.
SZA (real name Solána Rowe) performed music from her smash 2022 album SOS along with Ctrl, with songs including “Snooze,” “Kill Bill,” “Good Day,” “Love Galore” and “Broken Clocks.” Leaning into current trends favoring prep school looks, SZA wore a white Jacquemus blouse paired with a Shushu Tong Studio pleated skirt and Simone Rocha Mary Jane platform shoes.
She was joined on stage by Ice Spice, NLE Choppa and Earth Gang. In addition to a free concert, lucky concert goers were treated to complimentary food trucks, an open bar and free merch.
The Grammy Award-winning artist also performed songs from the deluxe album including one currently titled “Boys from South Detroit.” At the event she explained, “We don’t actually have a plan, we’re just playing some songs off the deluxe. We’re just gonna play a couple of songs you already know. But it was really just, I just wanted to do something for free that was a vibe because I’m here in town.”
Providing additional details on her upcoming deluxe album, SZA told attendees the project will be titled Lana and will include up to 10 new songs. “So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album,” she announced. “It’s called Lana. It’s seven-10 songs and it’ll be out this fall.”
SZA didn’t confirm it during the concert, but rumor has it Lana will include a remix of “Snooze” featuring Justin Bieber feature, who was included in the recently-released visual for the song.
