British pop star Dua Lipa has pushed back on a full-page NY Times ad (below) placed on Saturday (May 22, 2021) by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach’s World Values Network calling for Lipa, along with Bella and Gigi Hadid to condemn Hamas, an Islamist political and military organization. Underneath a black and white image of the three women, copy read: ‘Hamas calls for a second holocaust. CONDEMN THEM NOW.”
While the Hadid sisters have yet to respond, Lipa took to Instagram stories where she uploaded a statement (below). Doubling down on her prior support of Palestinians, she wrote, “I utterly reject the false and appalling allegations that were published today in the New York Times advertisement taken out by the World Values Network. This is the price you pay for defending Palestinian human rights against an Israeli government whose actions in Palestine both Human Rights Watch and the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem accuse of persecution and discrimination.”
She went on to add, “I believe that everyone, Jews, Muslims and Christians, have a right to live in peace as equal citizens of a state they choose.”
Lipa has a connection to the Hadid sisters through their brother Anwar, who she’s been dating exclusively for close to two years. All three Hadids are the children of Dutch model Yolanda Hadid and Palestinian real-estate developer Mohamed Hadid.
Boteach’s organization no doubt targeted Lipa and the Hadid sisters because of their high profile and prior pubic support of Palestine, which included Bella Hadid’s attendance at a protest last week in Brooklyn.
Last week, Lipa took to Instagram where she provided information on ways in which people could help Palestinian impacted by the latest conflict. Anwar Hadid has also actively supported Palestinians on Instagram where he’s reposted statements describing Israel as a apartheid state.
