LVMH-backed privaty equity firm L Catterton has ac

LVMH-backed privaty equity firm L Catterton has acquired a majority stake in Kapital, a Japanese clothing company founded in 1985 by Toshikiyo Hirata.

According to the Greenwich, Connecticut-based firm's website, the purchase was made last year, however, the company hasn't provided any details on the size of the transcation. The change of hands follows the death of Hirata in April of last year.

According to Hypebeast, "Kapital was formally founded in 1985 in Kojima, the district in Japan’s Okayama prefecture known as the birthplace of Japanese denim. Hirata-san first founded the denim label in 1948 while living in the United States as a karate teacher, heavily inspired by the American denim aesthetic. He was one of the early Japanese collectors who traveled to America at the time in search of 'vintage gold' and went on to study denim-making techniques in Kojima in the ’80s."

L Catterton is led by co-CEOs J. Michael Chu and Scott Dahnke. Originally Catterton Partners, the fund merged with Bernard Arnault's family office and LVMH in 2016 to create L Catterton.

Some of L Catterton's notable investments include Birkenstock, Peloton, Miami Design District, Stripes, Ganni and Etro, among others.

Baltimore-based Carpet Company, established in 2015 by brothers Osama and Ayman Abdeldayem, returns for their second collaboration with Vans. This limited-edition release reimagines the Vans Old Skool Style 36, drawing inspiration from the original 1977 silhouette.

The sneakers, available in two colorways, feature a premium blend of suede and faux croc leather uppers and are limited to just 1,977 pairs. The collection also includes a coordinating sweatsuit and bag, reflecting Carpet Company's distinctive design ethos.

The Abdeldayem brothers, former engineers, artfully merge their Egyptian heritage with skate culture. Known for collaborations with Baltimore hardcore band Turnstile and designing their own Nike SB sneaker, Carpet Company continues to make waves in the streetwear and skateboarding scenes.
