The Turf Provides Emerging Designers With A Global Reach

September 15, 2018. Leave a Comment

We’ve linked as media partners with The Turf, a new boutique-oriented collaborative showroom that highlights a very select group of up-and-coming fashion labels. Founded by In Support Of boutique owners Tanya Sheikh and Ivan Gilkes, the Turf show is limited to 30 brands and includes events in New York, Los Angeles and Paris.

With brands ranging from Brooklyn’s Combine de Filles to New Delhi, India-based Untitled Co., The Turf showcase not only provides a curated collection of labels, but also a friendly environment where connections and conversations flow organically.

On why the duo chose to start up The Turf, Sheikh commented, “Our business really started out as a showroom, but in working with young designers we opened the In Support Of retail store to support them and also realized that between showroom fees and commissions, we were contributing to sinking brands instead of helping them. Hence we charge a minimal fee ($1,250) to the designers, provide the space and also use our buying contacts to showcase new talent at The Turf.”

On plans for the even, Gilkes added, “Eventually I want this show to grow into a year-round launching platform, and support system for emerging designers functioning somewhat like a brand incubator in the physical and digital marketplace.”

The Turf New York takes place on September 13-16, 2018 from 10:00 to 7:00 EST PM and is located at 157 Hudson Street. The Paris event will take place from September 28-30 and in Los Angeles on October 9-10.

Enjoy a look at some of our favorite items from the New York show below.
